Destiny is located in La Paz, B.C.S., Mexico. She has been professionally maintained by her third owner since December 2004. She arrived in La Paz January 2005. Known as the Explorer 45, she was designed by Stan Huntingford of Vancouver, Canada, renowned on the West Coast for his classic designs. Destiny is often mistaken for a wooden boat with her plank lined fiberglass hull. That mystique continues when one goes below to find the warm hand-rubbed teak interior, arched spruce stripped overhead and the teak & holly sole. The hull is stiff and strong with hand laid fiberglass: up to 16 alternate layers of mat and woven roving. The deck house is hand molded fiberglass lay up with 3/4" internal core for added strength. The interior of the hull is insulated against noise and moisture with 3/4" polyurethane sheet foam fiberglassed in place with one layer of mat from cabin sole to deck and overlayed with teak stripping. All joinery is of teak with fine decorative details including hand-carved scrolls. Destiny has a full keel with cutaway forefoot. She's steady and stable and sails beautifully, an absolute delight in 5-20 knots.
