Dunlin is a lightweight fast cruising Peapod that is fun to sail and row! Kees Prins, a local Port Townsend shipwright/designer/artist/sailor (originally from Holland) crafted this one-of-a-kind beauty for his own use. It is available for sale for the first time. The hull is based on Howard Chapelle's beloved rowboat and is strip planked with a layer of fiberglass inside and out. Deck, seats and sole are ply (epoxy and fiberglass), rails are teak. There are 6 watertight compartments to keep your gear dry and the boat afloat. You must see Kees' work to experience the level of detail and workmanship he puts into every boat he builds. A rare opportunity to own a bristol contemporary Peapod daysailor and exploration boat!
She has twin bilge boards that are asymmetrical NACA foils. which raise and lower like a normal centerboard. They are out of the way, off to the sides, leaving a flat sleeping area of 2.5' x 7'! She also has water ballast of 200lbs to steady her in a breeze.
The masts are carbon fiber and rotate for easy reefing and furling. This makes for almost infinite reefing; just add another turn (or roll them all the way up for rowing). The booms are aluminum and the sails are custom made by local sail loft Northwest Sails. The tiller connects to the rudder via a quadrant and the rudder can be raised and lowered from the cockpit.
She comes with an almost new Trailex aluminum trailer, hand pump, fenders, and dock lines. She has everything she needs to go sailing right now!
Dunlin would be a great R2AK boat! The Race to Alaska is sponsored by the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend, WA.
