Riparian is a well-cared for one owner boat that has sailed 13 summers in the fresh water of the Great Lakes and 5 winters in the Bahamas since being launched in 2002. She is currently docked at St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada on Lake Ontario, which is 45 miles from Buffalo International Airport and 65 miles from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.
Riparian has been very well maintained. Her bright work is immaculate. Her 63 horsepower Westerbeke engine has less than 1600 hours and Riparian is well equipped for cruising, including upgraded electronics, a wind generator, solar panels, a Spectra watermaker, an Icom SSB, a Variprop feathering propeller, and a 33 lb. stainless steel Bruce style anchor. Her bottom was sanded and painted in 2019.
In a recent survey, which was conducted for insurance purposes, the surveyor stated that Riparian was in “Above Average” shape, which is defined in the report as “a vessel that is ready for sale, is equipped with substantial extras, and/or requires little to no additional work or maintenance.” The surveyor noted that Riparian was very well cared for and extremely clean inside and out. The estimated fair market value was given as US$264,480. The rigging inspection did not identify any deficiencies.
The following is a summary of the many upgrades made to this vessel, which was already well equipped when launched in 2002.
Riparian returned to the Gozzard factory in 2008 to have some upgrades installed. This included a fiberglass hard dodger, an Icom 706 MII Ham/SSB radio and antenna turner, stainless steel tubing to replace the aft life lines, an oil change pump, lights in cupboards, custom anchor chain rollers, a 12,000 BTU air conditioner with a custom fiberglass air vent, and a stainless steel main sheet arch, which facilitates the use of the full enclosure while sailing. The lexan upper windshield was replaced in 2018, and provides excellent visibility from the helm.
During the winter lay-up of 2011/2012, the original analog chart plotters and radar were replaced by two Raymarine C90W colour plotters and HD digital radar. The autopilot was also upgraded to an X30 Smart Pilot, and a Sirius satellite weather receiver was installed. A PDQ internet booster was installed in 2015. A Raymarine AIS 650 transponder was installed in 2016.
To accommodate the antennae required for the extra electronics, Klacko Marine constructed a stainless steel antenna arch that blends in nicely with the lines of the boat and bimini.
The German made Super Wind 350 generator was installed in 2014. Unlike many wind generators, this unit is extremely quiet.
Sunware solar panels and Multi Point Power Tracking (MPPT) regulators were installed to further add charging capabilities for the 725 amp hour industrial grade house bank. The low profile Sunware panels blend in nicely with the lines of the Gozzard.
The 12 volt Spectra Cape Horn water maker, which was installed in 2014, has two pumps. It can produce 8 gallons per hour using one pump or 16 gallons per hour using both pumps. The Z-Ion option allows the water maker to remain idle for up to a month without the need to add preservative chemicals that shorten the life of the membranes.
