Descrizione

The NIGHT SKY,  ("Red Sky at Night, Sailor's Delight") is a 2000 Great Harbour 26
that was designed by famous naval architect William Cook. Mr. Cook has
numerous superb racing and cruising designs but the GH26 stands out as one of his most
beautiful boats. Night Sky, like the other five Great Harbours, was custom built in Southwest
Harbor, Maine, in 2000 by the renowned yacht builder Hank Hinckley. This boat has returned to
Southwest Harbor on a regular basis for upfits, improvements, and yearly maintenance. Prior to
being sold to the current owner in the fall of 2021. The current owner has kept the boat hulled
every winter since purchase. Please call today to arrange to see her.  804-878-9097

Engine

The GH26 is supplied with a 1 cylinder Yanmar 1GM10 diesel  9 hp engine.

The 3/4" stainless steel shaft exits the hull through a packless bearingmounted on an integral fiberglass stern tube and is supported by a strut ahead of the two bladed prop.

General Description

The GH26 is a 26' trailerable sloop. This stable, weekend yacht is designed to be easily loaded on a trailer with its lift keel and removable inboard rudder.

The keel in the up position has a draft of 1'10". It permits access to remote cruising areas that are unavailable to other sailboats of its size. A no compromise approach has been taken into account with both the design and construction. The finished product is of a quality only found in much larger custom yachts.

CONSTRUCTION-Deck, Keel, Rudder

DECK:
The deck is manufactured of biaxial fiberglass fabric in a polyester resin. Coring of the deck is 1/2" Core Cell foam.

KEEL:
The keel is a lead casting of approximately 1,494 Ib. with an internal backbone of steel.

RUDDER:
The rudder is constructed of fiberglass and foam over a hollow stainless steel rudder post.
The rudder bearings for the lift keel version are housed in a removable cassette that permits easy removal of the whole rudder assembly for trailering.

DECK HARDWARE:

The boat is equipped with the following hardware: Harken Self-tailing sheet and halyard winches, SS bow cleat, SS stern cleats (2) Port Lights fixed (4). foredeck hatch, Jib Track and blocks. Main Sheet Track and blocks, deck mounted turning blocks for the halyards, chainplates and covers, mast step. bow vent, stern/engine room vents, cockpit storage lockers.

Interior

This is a classic and beautiful interior. The "head" pumps into a holding tank or overboard. There is a small sink with fresh water supply forward. Two aft quarter berth areas are used for stowing safety gear, sails, etc. The interior joinery is classic Hinckley and Herreshoff: varnish trim with white surfaces. The cabin sole is teak and holly. Some of the interior wood is varnished cherry. The cabin sides is varnished mahogany.

Other Notes

One of 6 similar Great Harbors, NIGHT SKY is very special in that it has a retractable fin keel that lifts vertically into the hull via a hydraulic/electric push-button system. This reliable system, plus the removable cassette rudder, allows the yacht to be legally trailered without the modifications and adjustments needed for a fin keel. With keel up, the boat draws about 2 feet. Down, the draft is about 5 feet. NIGHT SKY sails like a dream. She is perfectly balanced on all points of sail, will sail itself when properly trimmed, and tacks within 35 degrees when the wind allows. The sails currently on the boat are from North Sails and have excellent shape and durability. The main sail is fully battened with two reef points and is fitted for a lazy jack/stack pack system for easy sail reef, and douse. The working jib is roller furled with a Hoyt self-tacking boom. An extent sprit and asymmetrical spinnaker, used with the sock or turtle, is easily set, trimmed, and furled No muss, no fuss. The boat nearly flies when the A-sail is flown. As was mentioned before, this boat sails like a dream. But, best of all, the boat is comfortable, stable, and easily handled. The boat is very stiff and the rail is hard to but under water. The cockpit is comfortable and has a full set of cushions and backrests. The exterior has been optimized for low maintenance with limited varnish work and coaming, tiller, and ensign covers. Down below, the boat has been designed with a conventional 4-berth (plus quarter berths) configuration with a toilet forward. The arrangement has accommodated two adults for "overnights" during past cruises.
