If you want to be the fastest boat on the Bay, Sparkle is the boat!
Sparkle, a 40’ Double Ended Masthead Sloop, is widely known as the fastest boat in Port Townsend, WA and Beyond! Her race winnings include winning the Lipton Cup Trophy the year she launched and she dominated the Southern California racing scene for 3 decades. Many designers tried to build a boat to beat her, but were unsuccessful. Her History is well documented with Trophies, Photo Albums and countless Newspaper Articles which all will be included with the boat. She was designed by Norm Schwartz and built by Alex Irving. Between the two of them they created a vessel that is, time and time again, boat lengths out front of any other boats on the course!
The current owners purchased Sparkle in 1997 and brought her to Port Townsend, WA. She received her first partial rebuild in 1999 including a new spade rudder and engine. She was re-launched in 2001 with the original builder, Alex Irving, and 7 crew (from the 40’s – 60’s) in attendance.
The current owners campaigned Sparkle in approximately 60-70 races annually with over 300 First Place finishes since 2001 and have continued her reputation as the boat to beat!
In 2008/09 she received a Major Re-Build by her current owners (details on Spec Page) which included new Fasteners, Planks, Frames, Stem, Forefoot, Horn Timbers, Deck Beams, Decks, House Sides, Coamings, Hatches, Guards, Toe-Rails, Standing and Running Rigging as well as a Re-Power with a New 48V Electric Yacht Motor (New 2012) and New Max Prop Propeller (New 2012). She was Re-Launched in 2012 and immediately started winning races again. She won Best Restored Sailboat at the Classic Boat Festival in Victoria that year as well. Sparkle continues to dominate in the PHRF racing scene, at 73 years old! Her PHRF is 129
Her layout is straightforward down below with port and starboard extended Settees that double as Berths as well as a V-berth forward and a marine head. The vessel has berths for up to 5 people.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to own a historic racing boat that is fully race-ready! Sparkle has been incredibly well upgraded and maintained by her current owners, is turn-key and ready to go sailing. Catch her if you can!
