| Built in 1951, 'Akela' is nevertheless constructed to a much older pre-war design. This is evident by the layout, which harkens back to the days of professional Captains and crews, with owners along as pampered guests! The forepeak, now designated the master cabin, was once the crews quarters, with the galley next aft (the cook being a member of the crew), the Captain and mate's berths well aft (to be close to the helm), and the owners cabin (now designated as a guest cabin) located as close as possible amidships, where the least amount of boat motion is to be found, and thus most comfortable. |
